The Great Grape Wars

The Grape Ranch Winery in Okemah, Oklahoma will host an SCA demo called "The Great Grape Wars" on May 11, 12 and 13, 2007.  This is a wonderful recruiting opportunity for the entire Northern Region of Ansteorra.

Friday's schedule:
May 11 will be strictly a set up day and people should not arrive before FIVE O'CLOCK p.m. since the Grape Ranch is hosting Governors from 11 States on that day. NOTE:  TIME CHANGE BY GRAPE RANCH WINERY.  NO ONE ON SITE BEFORE 5 PM.  Please follow the instructions about where to camp by Grape Ranch personnel.  Exact location of camp is subject to changes due to the recent rains.

Fire pots will be required because no holes may be dug. There will be water and a limited electrical supply as well as a place for RV's.  There are also shade trees and cold water showers.  Tent camping is permitted.  Due to the recent plentiful rains, there will be no dry firewood available.   Please bring your own firewood and/or charcoal.

Saturday's schedule:
Court will be at 10 a.m. with each Baron addressing the crowd at Their Excellencies discretion. So far, three Baronies have committed to being present.

At 11 a.m. Chivalric fighters will compete for the title of "Defender of the Grape" and will be presented with a prize from the Winery and from Skorragardr.

At 1 p.m. light fighters will compete for the title of "Guardian of the Grape" and will be presented with a prize from the Winery and from Skorragardr.

At 3 p.m. there will be an all out melee with both heavy and light fighters with one army beginning at one side of the valley and another at the other side. They will meet in the middle and will engage.  Heavy fighters will fight first and light fighters will follow immediately thereafter.

The day will end for us at 7 p.m. and people will be free to do as they wish. Vendors are welcome and there is no charge for vendors or entrants. No food or wine vendors are permitted.  Currently 12 merchants have committed to being present.

Sunday's schedule:
Sunday will be a challenge day with fighters challenging each other at will and the prizes for heavy fighter and light fighter winners will be awarded by the various Barons as they so choose.  They may also make a morning address to the crowd at Their Excellencies discretion.  Crowd usually run about 2,000 for one of the Grape Ranch's events. There is no set Sunday Schedule and we must leave by 7 p.m.

During the entire Demo:
Arts and crafts will be set up for display only. Documentation is NOT required since this is strictly a demo. Bardic Champion will be people's choice with roaming bards performing for randomly chosen judges.

Remember please, NO FEES and FREE WINE in moderation.

The Grape Ranch wants this to be an annual affair and all landed Barons have been sent a letter of invitation for them and their Baronies. The Ranch is spending $7,000 on advertising as well as posting it on their website.  This is a wonderful opportunity to show off the SCA and have fun in the process.
